Britt Gillette's The Dukes Of Hazzard DVD (Season
1) Review
In the late 70's and early 80's, television viewers fell in love with
The Dukes of Hazzard, a weekly foray into the fictional setting
of Hazzard County, Georgia. Cousins Bo and Luke Duke (John Schneider and
Tom Wopat) spent each episode trying to do good, while the loveable "Boss"
Hogg (Sorrell Booke) concocted various schemes for making money and having
the Duke boys (who always foiled his plans) thrown in jail for violating
their probation (the result of a deal with the federal government to end
the centuries-old Duke family tradition of bootlegging).
Joining Bo and Luke are their Uncle Jesse (Denver Pyle), a grandfatherly
figure who owns the family farm, and Cousin Daisy (Catherine Bach), whose
skimpy shorts coined the cultural term "daisy dukes". Along
with "Crazy" Cooter (Ben Jones), the local mechanic, they create
a formidable threat to the money-making shenanigans of Sheriff Rosco P.
Coltrane (James Best) and the owner of seemingly every business entity
in Hazzard County, "Boss" Hogg.
But critics will argue that the true star of the show was the General
Lee, Bo and Luke's bright orange Dodge race car with the Confederate flag
pasted on its roof
Season one of The Dukes of Hazzard DVD provides a number of famous
episodes, including the very episodes which provided each video clip for
the opening sequence of the show. With Waylon Jennings's weekly narrations
as "The Balladeer" (performing artist of the show's legendary,
chart-topping theme song), The Dukes of Hazzard provides hours
of family-friendly programming as Boss and Roscoe match wits with the
Duke clan
Episode 1 (One-Armed Bandits): Air Date: 01-26-1979
Sheriff Rosco Coltrane smuggles a truck of illegal slot machines into
Hazzard County with the intent of using the proceeds to fund his tough
reelection effort (a "Boss" Hogg idea that will net Boss the
majority of the take). But when Bo and Luke Duke get a hold of the one-armed
bandits, they put them to use in local clubs and lodges in order to save
the Hazzard County orphanage, and to Rosco's complete surprise, they give
him all the credit
Episode 2 (Daisy's Song): Air Date: 02-02-1979
Cousin Daisy loses $50 of her hard-earned money to a fly-by-night music
publishing outfit, prompting Bo and Luke to track down the operation.
To their utter surprise (sarcasm intended), they discover that "Boss"
Hogg is a partner of the operation. With a little help from a tape-recorder,
the Dukes devise a scam of their own in an attempt to bust the operation,
and with it, "Boss" Hogg's dreams of a music publishing empire
Episode 3 (Mary Kaye's Baby): Air Date: 02-09-1979
When the General Lee needs repairs, Bo and Luke borrow a car loaded with
moonshine (a clear violation of their probation which could land them
in jail). Things get even more hairy when the Duke boys pick up their
longtime friend Mary Kaye, a pregnant hitchhiker they're unaware is carrying
over $100,000 of stolen Atlanta mob money. When Boss gets the information,
he's sees an opportunity take down the Duke boys as well as endear himself
with Atlanta's leading crime figure
Episode 4 (Repo Men): Air Date: 02-16-1979
When Bo and Luke happen upon the local used car lot, they strike a deal
with the shady owner. But unbeknownst to Bo and Luke, the car dealer is
running a chop-shop, trafficking in stolen cars. And to make matters worse,
the car picked up by the Duke boys belongs to someone else who will do
anything to get it back
Episode 5 (High-Octane): Air Date: 02-23-1979
With a local government agency hosting a contest to create alternative
fuels to solve the nation's energy crisis, Uncle Jesse decides to break
his deal with the federal government and brew up one last batch of moonshine.
But in order to prove his alternative fuel can run a car, Uncle Jesse
has to first keep his secret from Boss and Rosco, and then smuggle the
moonshine into the contest
Episode 6 (Swamp Molly): Air Date: 03-09-1979
Uncle Jesse's cousin, Swamp Molly, makes her first appearance in Hazzard
County in a long time. Years ago, she sprung Jesse out of a heap of trouble
he had gotten into with Feds. Now, she wants payback. And her payback
requires Bo and Luke to engage in one last moonshine run (with Boss and
Rosco hot on their trail)
Episode 7 (Luke's Love Story): Air Date: 03-16-1979

stock car derby. Boss hog hatches a scheme to reclaim the derby's trophy
because his mother's ashes are kept inside

sheriff arrives at the farm, the Dukes have to think fast in order to
get rid of the evidence
Episode 9 (Limo One Is Missing): Air Date: 04-06-1979
Secret Service agents traveling through Hazzard County leave President
Carter's personal vehicle, Limo One, outside of the Boar's Nest while
they ask for directions. But while they're inside, Cooter can't resist
the mean, lean, presidential limousine. He hotwires the car, sparking
a county-wide manhunt and causing trouble for Bo and Luke in the process
Episode 10 (Deputy Dukes): Air Date: 04-13-1979
Instead of throwing Bo and Luke in prison, Sheriff Rosco does the unexpected
when he deputizes the Duke boys. As their first order of business, they're
forced to retrieve a Springfield prisoner for transport (without the aid
of a gun). Sounds simple, but the prisoner in question is public enemy
number one, and he's got a smooth-talking vixen working overtime to stop
Bo and Luke
Episode 11 (Money To Burn): Air Date: 04-20-1979
"Boss" Hogg masterminds a brilliant scheme through the use of
his Hazzard County bank holdings to have a money transport of ragged currency
meet with an "unfortunate accident" so that he can collect the
on the $1 million insurance policy as well as the $1 million that supposedly
burned in the crash. Unfortunately for Boss, his plan crosses paths with
the Duke boys, and the ingenious "Boss" Hogg plan goes up in
smoke - along with his million dollars

Bo and Luke get side jobs driving an 18-wheeler, oblivious to the fact
that inside is a fully-functional gambling casino with all its games rigged
in favor of the house. As the truck circles Hazzard County, Boss and Rosco
conceive of a plan to catch the Duke boys, while Uncle Jesse and Cousin
Daisy carry out a well-conceived plan to beat the house at its own game
- with Jesse playing the part of the grifter
