Britt Gillette's X-Files (Fight The Future) DVD ReviewBased on the popular television show from its day, The X-Files: Fight The Future is a government conspiracy-driven tale of alien suspense and intrigue. FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully partner up to take on the mysterious forces of the paranormal. Mulder believes in aliens and government conspiracies. His long-time partner Scully does not. But what they find out while seeking the truth behind a deadly bombing will shock them both Unless you've watched the actual show The X-Files or are familiar with the general ideas expressed on the television show, then I can't say that I would recommend The X-Files: Fight The Future. It might be over your head. But if you want to use it as a starting point for getting into re-runs of the show, then go for it The story begins when a young boy uncovers the entrance to a cave which holds a thirty-thousand year old extraterrestrial virus. Dormant for all that time, the virus now threatens to destroy all of humanity Meanwhile, Mulder and Scully (after spending five years investigating paranormal activity) are reassigned to less interesting posts when the X-Files are closed. Working on a bomb detail, they search a federal building in a feeble attempt to avoid a catastrophe. But the bomb detonates and people are killed. Investigating his suspicions, Mulder begins to uncover more and more information which eventually leads him to 'The Syndicate', an international cabal of powerful men who violently guard their exclusive secrets. Mulder must convince Scully of the validity of this conspiracy plot if he hopes to make an impact, and further probing by the two agents leads them to the scene of a murder, the mysterious Texas cave, the FBI's corridors of power, and a massive alien colony located in the icy tundra of Antarctica. Will Mulder and Scully figure out the mysteries surrounding the syndicate? Will they figure out the origins of the alien virus? Or the purpose of the alien presence on earth? One of the biggest hits of its day, The X-Files built a strong cult following among television viewers prior to the release of this commercially successful movie. Difficult to follow if you're an outsider to the series, The X-Files: Fight The Future nevertheless manages to spark an interest in even the most casual of viewers. The film has all the essential elements - suspense, action, secrets, conspiracies, and alien life You may be confused, but you won't be bored. Maybe that's why so many viewers were hooked on the weekly show. Because of its place in the pop culture of 1990s America, the full-length film version of The X-Files ranks as a definite must-see for movie goers Britt Gillette _____________________________________________________________________________________________ |
